Leeds United youngster Archie Gray set for Brentford medical

Leeds United youngster Archie Gray has agreed personal terms with Brentford as he edges closer to Elland Road exit.

According to David Ornstein, who rarely gets anything wrong when it comes to breaking stories, the 18-year-old is set to undergo his medical at Brentford.

Writing for The Athletic, the transfer guru shared that Leeds are expecting to receive a fee in the region of £35 million for their generational talent if everything goes according to plan.

Other Premier League and European teams have been chasing the versatile midfielder, but Brentford appears to have positioned themselves strongly in the race to sign him.

Leeds want to keep hold of their star player but given the financial situation they’re in after missing out on promotion to the Premier League last season, the Whites have been left with no choice but to reluctantly sanction his exit.

Gray enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the Whites last season, managing 47 games in the Championship. He is a tremendous player who can play in multiple positions including at right-back.

He hails from the great Gray family, whose members have graced the green blades of Elland Road in the past, and it must be a huge blow for the youngster to leave his boyhood club.

It will be interesting to see if other clubs now join the race and make an effort to sign the youngster.

Leeds are under pressure to sell to help balance the books and to save themselves from the PSR punishment, and we could see more departures from Elland Road in the coming weeks.

Gray is a homegrown player and the fee recouped for him would be accounted for as pure profit.

Leeds youngster Charlie Cresswell could also leave the club. He is close to joining French club Toulouse, and his medical will follow next week.

Jamie Shackleton is another player who could be heading out of the Elland Road exit door shortly.
