Leeds youngster Archie Gray keen to join Tottenham Hotspur

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray is keen to join Tottenham Hotspur

According to journalist, Ben Jacobs, Spurs are in direct talks with Leeds to sign the 18-year-old versatile midfielder.

David Ornstein reported on 30 June that the north London club are working on a deal to sign Gray, and there is an expectation that a deal can be struck.

Leeds have already informed Gray that the club need to sell players to comply with PSR rules, and it seems Spurs are now in the driving seat to sign the youngster.

The Whites agreed a deal with Brentford on 29 June and the player even underwent a medical after agreeing personal terms.

However, he has now experienced a change of heart and is leaning towards joining Spurs. Brentford failed to reach an agreement on the payment structure and it allowed Tottenham to make an entry, and they are looking to strike a deal.

Jacobs wrote on X: “Spurs now in direct talks with Leeds to try and finalise a deal for Archie Gray, who is keen on the move.

“Always the most likely side to try for Gray after Brentford failed to agree a payment structure. Expectation is a deal gets done because Leeds still need to raise funds.”

Gray is a homegrown talent who has progressed through Leeds’s youth ranks. The Whites will receive pure profit from his sale, which should help them comply with financial rules.

He enjoyed a breakthrough 2023-24 campaign managing 47 games in all competitions. He is a generational talent and is passionate about playing for his boyhood club. However, it appears that his future now lies ahead of Elland Road.

The Spurs have yet to submit a bid for Gray, but they have made contact to sign the youngster. With Brentford out of the picture, the Spurs are in a strong position to close a deal for Gray in the coming days.
