Newcastle United have made contact with Crystal Palace about the possibility of signing Michael Olise, according to The Athletic.
The Magpies are likely to face competition from Chelsea, who have asked for permission on Wednesday afternoon to speak to the winger’s representatives so that they can agree on personal terms.
Newcastle are keen to sign a new right-sided attacking forward, and they admire Olise. However, Olise would cost around £60 million, and Newcastle probably won’t be able to meet that fee unless they sell some of their own players.
The two Manchester clubs are also keen to sign the 22-year-old forward who signed a new four-year deal at Selhurst Park last summer.
The Magpies may have to sell one or two players before the end of this month to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules. Miguel Almiron could be sold in the summer, while exciting young winger Yankuba Minteh could also be offloaded if the right offer comes along.
Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Olise on 13 June, and the journalist says his situation is “complicated”.
Newcastle have little chance to sign Michael Olise
Olise is a fantastic player and he would have been a terrific addition for the Magpies. He scored 10 goals in 19 appearances during a standout 2023-24 campaign under new manager Oliver Glasner, despite missing a chunk of the season through injuries.
Palace would love to keep him at Selhurst Park but at the same time, they are likely to sell him if Chelsea or any other club meet their asking price.
Newcastle has little chance of signing Olise this summer. The Magpies do have the wealth to sign the former Reading winger, but that would breach the PSR rules, which could lead to a point deduction, a scenario they would want to avoid at all costs.
Unless Newcastle lose either Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes, they won’t be able to pull off another big-money signing this summer.
Newcastle have been active in the summer window and have signed Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer. The Magpies are also looking to secure a deal for James Trafford within the next week.
