Rangers have missed out on Troyes midfielder Metinho

Rangers were one the clubs that showed interest in signing Troyes midfielder Metinho on loan this summer, according to Brazilian outlet Premier League Brasil.

However, the Scottish Premiership club have missed out on the Brazilian as he has decided to spend another season on loan in the Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam.

Metinho was with the Dutch top-flight club last season, initially playing for their youth team Jong Sparta Rotterdam in the Tweede Divisie before forcing his way into their senior team.

The 21-year-old was considering his future after his parent club Troyes got relegated for the second campaign running, and Rangers were one of the clubs who registered an interest in his services.

Leicester City and Basel were also in the race for Metinho with the Ibrox club, but it is Sparta who won the battle, leaving Rangers and co to look for midfield reinforcement elsewhere.

The Light Blues missed out on the Scottish Premiership title for the third campaign running last term, and manager Philippe Clement is desperate to bolster his squad this summer and mount a stronger title challenge against Celtic next season.

Landing Metinho would have been huge for Rangers given his quality and ability in the middle of the park.

The youngster only scored twice and assisted once in 24 Eredivisie games last term to help Sparta finish eighth, but he did not display any weakness in his overall game, with his dribbling, tackling and intercepting skills attracting Leicester and the Gers.

The Fluminense academy graduate gets fouled often due to his style of play and loves to play long balls to his attackers.

Rangers need such a creative player within their ranks, and the DR Congo-born Brazilian would have been a solid addition capable of greatly improving their squad.

Their scouting team will keep recommending potential excellent signings for the club in the coming weeks, and the quality of recruitment they end up making this summer will determine whether they can finally stop Celtic in 2024-25.
