Rangers in hunt to sign Kenny McLean

Rangers are eyeing a move to bring Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean to Ibrox in the summer transfer window, according to Daily Record

The Gers want to sign more Scottish players to their ranks after landing Connor Barron from Aberdeen, and they have earmarked McLean as an option.

This has been a busy transfer window for Rangers who have now signed four new players.

Rangers were interested in McLean last year before he penned his recent extension. The 40-times capped Scotland star has two more years left on his current deal, with the Canaries having the option for a third.

The Gers have watched the Scotland midfielder heavily at the end of the last season and at the 2024 European Championships.

However, any move to Ibrox will depend on whether Norwich are willing to do any business.

The 32-year-old grew up as a Light Blues fan and has previously expressed his special feelings for the Glasgow club. Rangers need to offer him a long-term contract at Ibrox, and the deal would depend on Norwich’s asking price for the player.

Rangers need to bolster their midfield this summer

The Bears have offloaded two senior players, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack, this summer and Philippe Clement needs to replenish the void.

While Barron is an exciting young player, Rangers do need experience in the middle of the park. Mclean still has a few good years left in him, and he would be a smart addition to the side.

He has a wealth of experience playing in the Championship and in the Premier League and knows Scottish football very well. McLean made over 150 appearances for St Mirren and made 140 appearances for Aberdeen during his time in Scotland.

More Scottish players could arrive at Ibrox this summer, with Rangers eyeing a move for Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly who is likely to join on a free transfer.
