Rangers are poised to complete a deal to bring Liam Kelly to Ibrox this summer, according to a report from Football Scotland.
Chris Jack has reported that Barron is “poised to complete” a move to Ibrox, and it appears that Kelly could join him soon.
The online media outlet reported on 19 June that Barron will soon be joined at Ibrox by the Motherwell goalkeeper. The out-of-contract goalkeeper is currently with Scotland, participating in the Euro 2024 Championships, and will complete the switch when he returns from international duty.
In that case, while he is on course to move to Ibrox, Rangers may have to wait a few weeks for his signature.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper came through the ranks at Ibrox but never made the senior grade at the club, spending time elsewhere on loans.
Liam Kelly would be a smart signing for Rangers
Kelly knows Scottish football very well, and he can be a reliable backup for current first-choice keeper Jack Butland.
The goalkeeper spent time at Livingston and Queens Park Rangers before moving to Motherwell. He initially joined on loan, and his move was later made permanent.
He has made more than 150 appearances for Motherwell and will bring his experience to the Rangers side.
The Bears have already released Jon McLaughlin following the expiry of his contract. Back-up goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is likely to move on as well as he is looking for regular game time, something he has found really difficult to manage at Ibrox.
Rangers have been very active in the summer transfer window, with Philippe Clement landing three players already. Jefte, Oscar Cortes, and Clinton Nsiala have put pen to paper at Ibrox already and Connor Barron is expected to secure his move on a free transfer as well.
The Bears will return to pre-season training next week from Monday.
