Tottenham Hotspur are “closely watching” Leeds United youngster Archie Gray ahead of a potential move in the summer, according to a report from Football London.
Spurs are looking to sell full-back Emerson Royal and have been in talks with AC Milan. Tottenham value the right-back at around £21 million, but Milan will need to bridge the gap in valuation to sign him.
Sergio Reguilon and Djed Spence will both leave this summer which means Tottenham will need to sign a new full-back.
The online media outlet reported on 16 June that Spurs would look at potential right-backs to replace Emerson and retain a strong interest in Gray. They have been watching him closely ahead of a potential move.
The 18-year-old made 52 appearances last season for Daniel Farke’s side and is one of the most highly-rated young talents to have come out of Leeds academy in years.
Leeds United may not need to sell Gray
If the Whites are forced to offload Crysencio Summerville, they will probably resist the temptation to sell Gray, who is expected to play a key role next season as Leeds aims to secure promotion.
He is a local boy and the latest in line from the historic Gray family, and playing for Leeds means a lot to him. He would love to stay for another season to see if Leeds manage to secure promotion to the Premier League.
If they fail again, then he might consider moving to a bigger club. Nevertheless, Ange Postecoglu must have been impressed with Gray’s versatility.
He started the season in various attacking, defensive and box-to-box central midfield roles, but ended up playing mostly in the right-back areas. However, if Leeds manage to sign one or two full-backs in the summer, Gray could move to midfield.
Gray has a contract at Elland Road until 2028 and Spurs need to spend “big money” to sign him, considering there would be plenty of competition for the teenager.
In other Tottenham news, senior Spurs player could be all set for exit this summer.
