Udinese defender Nehuen Perez open to West Ham move

West Ham are showing keen interest in signing Udinese defender Nehuen Perez in the summer transfer window.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported on 10 June that several clubs have shown interest in signing the 23-year-old centre-back, and the Hammers have made an initial survey as well.

Now, Ian Abrahams has suggested on X (10 June) that his sources in Italy have informed him that Perez is open to joining West Ham.

The talkSPORT journalist wrote: “My sources in Italy say West Ham interested in Udinese’s Nehuen Perez, and the player is open to the move.”

West Ham desperately need to bolster their defence

Julen Lopetegui needs to sign more than one centre-back this summer, and bolstering the defence should be one of his top priorities.

Angelo Ogbonna has been a great servant for the club, but his time at West Ham has come to an end following the expiry of his contract. Kurt Zouma has been a key figure under David Moyes, but doubt remains over his long-term future at the club.

The same can be said about Nayef Aguerd who has been often linked with moves to Saudi Pro League clubs.

The Hammers could sell both to free up space for new arrivals. West Ham have been linked with a move for Brazilian defender Fabricio Bruno, but the Hammers didn’t pursue the move after he demanded a higher salary.

Lopetegui is also keen to sign Max Kilman, but luring him away from Wolves would require a massive fee.

Perez could be a cheaper option. He made 36 appearances in the Serie A for Udinese last season and has been one of their key players. He is already capped by the Argentine national team, and West Ham could be an ideal platform for him to develop.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are closing in on their first summer signing, after Luis Guilherme arrived in London on 10 June to undergo his medical.
