AC Milan are “working with confidence” to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A giants are quite confident of signing the 25-year-old defender, but they are yet to agree a deal with Tottenham.
Spurs are demanding a fee of around £16.8 million for Royal, but AC Milan are yet to reach an agreement with the north London club.
Milan’s initial offer is around £12.4 million, which is well short of Tottenham’s valuation of the player. However, Milan are still confident that a deal can be struck for the Brazilian full-back.
Romano claimed on X (11 July) that the defender had already signed a five-year contract with Milan, which means agreeing personal terms is never going to be an issue.
He wrote: “AC Milan keep working with confidence on deal to sign Emerson Royal. No agreement on fee yet as request remains over €20m from Spurs.
“AC Milan’s initial proposal was lower than €15m, next one expected to be higher… and get closer. Five year contract, agreed in may.”
Tottenham have already completed two signings this summer. Timo Werner, who impressed on loan last season, has joined permanently from RB Leipzig.
Spurs have also secured the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United, and they could be looking to bring in more players in the coming weeks.
The first priority now is to trim the squad and offload unwanted players. Royal has made over 100 appearances for Spurs but he is not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
It appears that Spurs could reach a compromise on Royal’s fee and allow him to join Milan. He recently stated that he does not want to be on the bench next season, and an exit from the club looks inevitable.
