Contrary to recent reports suggesting Arsenal opened talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, the Gunners have not made any concrete moves for the Spanish international.
According to Foot Mercato, the Gunners are not negotiating to sign the former Napoli star.
Several news outlets had claimed that the North London club were keen on bolstering their midfield options with the 2024 European Championship winner.
However, the news from France is that there have been no discussions regarding a potential move for the 28-year-old.
The news will come as a blow to some fans who had been excited by the prospect of Ruiz joining Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Spaniard’s creativity and technical ability would have added another dimension to Arsenal’s midfield.
Ruiz is reportedly open to leaving PSG this summer after finding himself on the fringes at the French club. He wants to be a starter, but the potential addition of Joao Neves will further push him down the pecking order.
Despite his limited playing time, he recorded seven goals and three assists in around 2,000 minutes.
On his day, he is a terrific midfielder who can dictate the tempo, break lines effortlessly, and beat his man while bagging goals and assists. Arsenal should have him on their radar.
Arsenal are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer with the club reportedly after Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino. It remains to be seen which one of their targets they will swoop for.
The Gunners have only added one player to their roster this summer, signing David Raya permanently following his successful loan spell at the club.
Arsenal have been surprisingly slow in the race to sign a new centre-forward, their most pressing area of need.
After missing out on Benjamin Sesko, it has been quiet on the striker front despite the North Londoners needing to recruit a top-class option to spearhead them to titles.
