Arsenal midfielder Lokonga on the verge of joining Sevilla

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is reportedly on the verge of joining Spanish outfit Sevilla this summer.

According to Diario de Sevilla, the 24-year-old has reached a verbal agreement with the La Liga side.

The two clubs are yet to agree terms with each other but there is said to be confidence a deal will eventually be secured.

The move will see the Belgian join Sevilla on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy included.

Lokonga arrived at the Emirates Stadium in a £17 million deal in 2021 from Anderlecht.

He had an impressive debut season but failed to nail down a starting role under manager Mikel Arteta.

The 24-year-old was sent on loan to Luton Town last term, where he endured an injury-ravaged campaign but still featured in 19 matches across all competitions.

Arsenal are prepared to sell the Belgian in the ongoing transfer window to make space in their squad for new signings.

They have already seen plenty of departures including Cedric Soares, Mohamed Elneny and Arthur Okonkwo.

The Premier League giants haven’t signed a player yet but that is expected to change soon.

Bringing in a new striker and central midfielder is reportedly their top priority, while they are also in the hunt for a centre-back

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last season.

They will push for the league title again in 2024-25 by strengthening their ranks this summer.
