Arsenal are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the summer transfer window.
According to journalist Duncan Castles, Mikel Arteta is looking to sign a new midfielder this summer and he has earmarked Ruiz as a potential option.
The 28-year-old midfielder won the Euro 2024 Championships with Spain but his future at the club is under scrutiny.
Arteta wants a combative midfielder who can pass the ball forward and feels the 29-time capped Spain international can do the job for the Gunners.
Speaking on the Transfers Podcast, Castles claimed that Arsenal are currently considering a structured deal, similar to how they signed David Raya from Brentford last season.
It means, the Gunners are negotiating a deal to sign him on loan with the obligation to buy him permanently next summer.
Castles said: “Arsenal have initiated discussions with Paris Saint-Germain for Spain international midfielder Fabian Ruiz.”
Arsenal need an attacking minded central midfielder
The Gunners finished second in the Premier League for the second season in a row, and they are expected to fight for the title once again next season.
While Arteta has Declan Rice and Jorginho as two quality central midfielders, the Spaniard needs someone who possesses great passing ability to unlock the opposition’s defence.
Ruiz joined PSG from Napoli two season ago, and the move has not worked out well for him. PSG will be willing to offload him, therefore Arsenal have a great opportunity to strike a deal for the Spain international.
The Gunners are likely to offload Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe this summer and they will have money to spend on new midfielders.
Ruiz is known for his vision, passing, ball control and dribbling skills and can provide tactical flexibility which will definitely make Arsenal a better team.
