Aston Villa are looking to bring a new striker to Villa Park in the summer transfer window.
The Villans will play in the Champions League next season, and Unai Emery is trying his best to create a solid squad that can fight on both the domestic and European fronts.
Villa have already made some cracking signings this season, and it appears that they are now looking to add a new striker to their ranks.
West Ham and Chelsea have both registered interest in Jhon Duran, but they have yet to strike a deal to sign the Colombian striker.
Villa have slapped a £40 million asking price on Duran and have rejected several bids from West Ham.
In case he leaves, the club will need another striker who can challenge Ollie Watkins for the regular starting role.
Aston Villa make contact to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta
According to a report from Express Sport, Villa are showing keen interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer.
The 27-year-old striker looked like a big flip since moving to the Premier League but he found his goalscoring touch under Oliver Glasner last season, ending up with 16 goals for the Eagles in the Premier League.
Interestingly, 14 of them came in the final 16 games of the campaign, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa.
Despite his stunning form at Selhurst Park in the second half of the season, Palace have not rewarded him with a new contract.
Villa have reached out to Mateta’s camp to explore the possibility of a transfer but they have not made any concrete offer to Palace as yet.
Mateta has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2026, and while talks have taken place over a new deal, the French striker has yet to put pen to paper on the dotted lines.
Italian giants Juventus and La Liga big shots Atletico Madrid are also keen to sign the Palace striker.
