Aston Villa set to sign Amadou Onana this weekend

Aston Villa close to finalising a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Aston Villa is set to complete the signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this week.

The Villans have been very busy in the summer window, with Unai Emery adding some quality players already.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Villa are set to complete a club record £50 million deal for the Belgium midfielder.

The dynamic midfielder will undergo his medical at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground following his participation in the Euro 2024 Championship, and the move will be completed by the end of this week.

Onana will sign a five-year contract at Villa Park, and he will be a record signing for the club.

The 22-year-old has been a priority target for Unai Emery and Villa have agreed financial details of the deal with Everton.

Amadou Onana will be a terrific signing for Aston Villa

Onana joined Everton in the summer of 2022 and made 72 appearances for the Toffees.

The transfer will be completed before Villa’s pre-season tour of the United States this month, and Onana is expected to participate.

Onana is a dynamic defensive midfielder who is strong with his tackles and can chip in with important goals. He has been a key player for Everton and the Toffees will benefit from his sale, as they can reinvest the money into the squad.

Villa removed fears of PSR threat after selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus. They have signed Ian Maatsen, Ross Barkley, Samuel Iling Junior, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin, and it will be interesting to see if they add more players after bringing Onana.

Emery should aim to have a bigger squad this season, as Villa will play in the Champions League next season.

Apart from Onana, Villa are also close to signing Jaden Philogene who will return to Villa in a £13.5 million deal in the next 24 hours after the club triggered the matching rights option.
