Atalanta working on third bid to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley

Serie A outfit Atalanta are working on another bid to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

The Bhoys rejected a lucrative offer from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, as Brendan Rodgers was reluctant to sell the 23-year-old midfielder.

Celtic are still unwilling to sell O’Riley but the summer window could throw up fresh challenges.

The Hoops have already rejected two bids from Atalanta but they are not giving up on signing him.

According to journalist Luca Bendoni, who works for team Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta are weighing up another bid for the Danish midfielder who was sensational last season for the Bhoys.

The second offer was around £12.6 million for O’Riley, but it was nowhere near acceptable for Celtic, who would demand a record fee for their star player.

To make the matter complicated, O’Riley has given the “green light” for the transfer. In other words, he is open to moving to Atalanta in the summer.

Serie A giants Juventus are also reportedly keen to sign the Denmark midfielder.

The Bergamo club has offered him a five-year deal, and he is ready to accept that. All they need to do is reach an agreement with Celtic, and that is the most problematic area in this deal.

O’Riley has scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions for Celtic last season and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

The Bhoys are pretty relaxed about his situation. He has a long-term contract at Celtic Park and the Hoops are under no pressure to sell him.

Celtic are looking to add more depth to their squad and are completing a deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo.

The Hoops are also close to signing Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the summer transfer window.

Losing O’Riley will be a big blow for Celtic but they should be able to replace him properly if they receive a huge fee from his transfer.
