Atletico Madrid in direct talks with Chelsea over Conor Gallagher deal

Atletico Madrid are reportedly in negotiations with Chelsea over a move for Conor Gallagher.

The 24-year-old is one of the finest talents to emerge from the Blues’ academy who has made 95 appearances across all competitions for them.

But he faces an uncertain future in West London as he has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is said to be an admirer of Gallagher and he has made the midfielder as his top summer transfer target.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish giants have entered direct talks with Chelsea over a deal to sign the England international.

It is said the two clubs are locked in negotiations over a deal worth around £33.7 million.

Gallagher was an important member of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team last season as he featured in 50 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals.

But the 24-year-old has only a year left on his contract and the Blues are ready to cash in on him this summer.

Since he came through the club’s academy, a sale would represent pure profit for the West Londoners.

Manager Enzo Maresca has added some top talents to his squad this summer, including Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Renato Veiga.

But they still look in need of a top-class striker despite Nicolas Jackson offering glimmers of quality during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League outfit have been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but a deal is expected to cost them an astronomical transfer fee.

Ivan Toney, Jhon Duran, and Samu Omorodion are some other names Chelsea could also pursue this summer.
