Celtic set to hold talks this week to sign Michel-Ange Balikwisha

Celtic are showing keen interest in signing Royal Antwerp forward Michel-Ange Balikwisha in the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Bhoys are currently in talks with the player’s agents as they look to explore the opportunity to sign him.

Celtic have “confirmed” interest in the 23-year-old attacker, and they are expected to hold more talks this week to progress on the deal.

The Scottish champions are looking to add more quality players to their ranks, as Brendan Rodgers eyeing to pick up hidden gems from across the world.

“Celtic FC attracted by Royal Antwerp FC’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha,” wrote Tavolieri.

“The Scottish club entered into discussions with player’s entourage to explore the possibility of a deal this summer as there’s a confirmed interest for Balikwisha’s profile.

“Clubs should have a talk this week to make some progress on the case. Wait and see…”

The Bhoys signed Adam Idah in the January transfer window from Norwich City on loan. He has returned to his parent club, and Celtic have yet to reach an agreement to sign him permanently.

It appears that they are now looking at options elsewhere. Balikwisha has played all his life in Belgium. He started his career at Standard Liege where he scored nine goals in 40 games.

For Royal Antwerp, he has scored 25 goals in 124 games, which takes his total goal tally at club level to 34.

He is primarily an attacking-minded left-winger but can also play as a right-winger or a second striker. At the moment, nothing has been confirmed yet apart from the fact that the Hoops are in touch with the player’s representatives.

Balikwisha has a contract at the club until 2026, which means Celtic can get him at a reasonable price. Celtic are also close to signing Kasper Schmeichel who will undergo his medical at Celtic Park this week.
