Chelsea forward Noni Madueke linked with a move to Newcastle United

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has emerged as a potential target for Newcastle United, according to The Athletic.

Madueke has been internally discussed at Newcastle, but any move for the English winger will be complicated, given that he’s considered a part of Chelsea’s long-term project.

The 22-year-old struggled to assert himself in the Chelsea first team under Mauricio Pochettino during the first half of the 2023/24 season.

However, he found stability towards the latter half and showed glimpses of his quality, finishing the season with eight goals and three assists in 34 appearances.

Madueke only joined Chelsea in January 2023. He’s still far from being the finished article, but the Blues believe in his quality and want to keep him as part of Enzo Maresca’s team heading into the new season.

Newcastle are in the market for attacking reinforcements, especially at right-wing, with Miguel Almiron linked with a move away from the club amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Madueke is one of several names on their shortlist, but it might take an outrageous proposal for Chelsea to even consider selling the former PSV Eindhoven talent.

Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen are some of the other names on Newcastle’s wishlist, while they’re also admirers of Spain star Nico Williams.

None of those deals will be straightforward for the Magpies, given their desire to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Newcastle also failed with a move for French winger Michael Olise. While they could afford to meet Crystal Palace’s demands, they couldn’t match Bayern Munich’s salary proposal.

The Magpies have some ambitious targets on their shortlist, but it remains to be seen which direction their quest for attacking reinforcements will take them.

They could also enter the transfer market for a striker if Callum Wilson leaves the club this summer.

They’ve been linked with a move for Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the deal fell through after they failed to agree personal terms with the striker.
