Chelsea are set to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen for €24.5 million, according to Fabrizio Romano. He will pen a seven-year contract that keeps him at the club until 2031.
The Blues have sealed a deal to land the Danish youth international to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number one spot. Djordje Petrovic will be on his way out of the club after an underwhelming debut season.
Chelsea knew they needed a new goalkeeper this summer and landed on Jorgensen, who established himself in Spain last year.
The 22-year-old’s stats are not overly impressive, but there is every chance he can develop at Stamford Bridge.
Villarreal conceded the third-most goals in La Liga last term (65), and 63 of those goals came with Jorgensen between the sticks. His goals prevented number stands at -1.02, and he managed only six clean sheets.
Chelsea have doubled down on their youth policy, preferring to take their chances signing unknown quantities rather than experienced quality.
The West Londoners have also reportedly sealed a deal to sign Aaaron Anselmino for £17 million.
A deal for the 19-year-old Boca Juniors centre-half has been in the works for some time, but everything is now set for him to join Chelsea.
Anselmino is reportedly jetting to the United States of America for his medical. When he completes the move, he will be one of the most expensive sales in Boca Juniors’ history.
Anselmino graduated from the Boca youth set-up, making his first-team debut in June 2023. Despite only a handful of appearances for Diego Martinez’s side, Chelsea have seen enough to convince them to sign him.
Anselmino will return to Boca on loan for the rest of the Argentine domestic top-flight season, which ends in December.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will continue their pre-season preparations in the USA as they face Scottish Premiership giants Celtic tonight.
