Crystal Palace set to sign Ryan Sessegnon after leaving Tottenham as a free agent

Crystal Palace are in advanced talks with former Tottenham Hotspur left-wing-back Ryan Sessegnon, according to The Athletic.

The 24-year-old is training with the club and will join on a free transfer after his contract with Spurs expired at the end of last season.

Sessegnon is nearing full fitness following hamstring surgery and is keen to secure a new club.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner is a big admirer of the London-born defender and has reportedly monitored him since his loan spell at TSG Hoffenheim during the 2020/21 season.

Sessegnon would provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell at left wing-back in Glasner’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

When Sessegnon arrived at Spurs, many thought he had the potential to be a world-class player, but injuries and inconsistency have blighted his time at the North London club.

The Selhurst Park outfit hopes to offer him a fresh start. They want to secure Sessegnon’s signature ahead of potential interest from other clubs, with the versatile defender offering valuable experience and an attacking threat down the left flank.

The Eagles have been swift in reinforcing their squad ahead of next season as they look to build on their momentum from the end of last campaign.

Palace finished last season with a flourish and will hope they can build on it, possibly steering themselves into European competition.

Palace have already secured the services of Chadi Riad from Real Betis. The Spain-born Moroccan defender impressed in La Liga last term, helping Betis keep four clean sheets in 28 appearances while winning 58% of his duels.

No under-21 defender won more ground duels in La Liga than Riad. His performances attracted interest from around Europe, but Palace moved quickly to get his signature on the dotted line.

Palace have also signed Japanese international attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada following his curious one-year spell at Lazio.

Hilariously controversial Lazio president Claudio Lotito decided to sell Kamada after branding him a mercenary.

Palace also have Jobe Bellingham and Antonio Nusa on their radar.
