Everton make approach to sign Napoli playmaker Jesper Lindstrom

Everton have made an approach to sign Napoli playmaker Jesper Lindstrom in the summer window.

According to a report from Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (17 July print edition), the Toffees have made it clear to Napoli that they want to sign the 24-year-old.

The 16-time capped Denmark international is facing a critical decision about his Napoli career, and the Serie A club may sell him.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported on 15 July that Napoli could sense another “great market opportunity” if any Premier League club came up with a big offer.

The Toffees could face strong competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, and both clubs are ready to invest over £25 million for his signature.

Everton need to add depth in midfield

The Toffees have been impressive in the summer transfer dealings so far. They have completed three signings and have sold Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey.

Everton will also offload their star midfielder Amadou Onana for around £50 million. This is a lot of money, and it should be reinvested into the squad properly.

Losing Onana will be a big blow to the club, but he was somewhat expected to leave at some point. It also means that Everton will have to sign a few players during the transfer window this summer, and Lindstrom will not be a bad option.

The midfielder impressed for Brondby and Eintracht Frankfurt, but his move to Napoli did not work out well for him.

Having said that, Everton should be cautious about the move and use the money wisely. Lindstrom does not score enough goals and provide assists, and Everton must consider this factor while signing him.

Moreover, Napoli are demanding a high fee for the player. It could prove to be a risky signing for the Toffees if they at all make a formal move.
