Feyenoord defender David Hancko offers his verdict on Liverpool rumours

Feyenoord star David Hancko has praised his former manager Arne Slot while delivering his verdict on the possibility of reuniting with the Dutchman at Liverpool.

Slot, who inspired Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2022/23, has replaced Jurgen Klopp in charge of Liverpool, leading to speculation the Slovakian could join him on Merseyside.

In an interview with Dutch news outlet Voetbal International, the 26-year-old admitted there’s a ‘small chance’ that he could swap De Kuip for Anfield this summer.

Hancko had high praise for the Dutch tactician, who has just arrived in the Premier League with huge expectations.

“I think in three years he (Slot) will be mentioned as one of the best coaches in the world,” he said.

“I see that happening because I know what he did for us and now he has the biggest platform to show it. I have a lot of confidence in him and his staff.

“And I don’t express that appreciation because I hope that I go with him to Liverpool, because that chance is small.

“I spoke to him a few times after the season but I don’t think they are looking for a player in my position so I don’t think a move to Liverpool will happen, but I wish him the best good luck, he really is a fantastic coach.”

Feyenoord signed Hancko from Sparta Prague for only €6 million in 2022, but after his superb form on Dutch soil, they’ll probably seek at least triple that amount to cut him loose.

Liverpool may consider the versatile defender a potential target after releasing Joel Matip at the end of last season, especially after putting Slot in charge.

Though he mainly operates as a centre-back, Hancko is well-versed in playing on the left, making him a potentially valuable addition to the Reds’ depleted backline.
