Lawrence Shankland would welcome Rangers move

Rangers have already signed five players this summer, but more could arrive at Ibrox in the coming weeks.

Bolstering the forward department is a priority for the Gers, and they are close to signing Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane.

The 21-year-old is an exciting prospect, no doubt, but he is raw and unproven. Philippe Clement needs more firepower upfront, especially if Cyriel Dessers leaves Ibrox.

According to a report from the Scottish Daily Mail (1 July), Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland remains an option for the Bears.

The 28-year-old striker would ” jump at the chance of a move to Ibrox”, with his contract set to expire in a year’s time.

Rangers are long-term admirers of Shankland but they are unwilling to pay “top dollar” for someone who could join the club for free in 12 months’ time.

The report claims that the Bears could reach a compromise with Hearts and agree a deal for Shankland, but that looks unlikely at this stage.

The Scottish giants have shown keen interest in signing Bojan Miovski, but a deal for him also looks unlikely at the moment.

Should Rangers sign Lawrence Shankland?

The 14-times capped Scotland international has been a prolific goalscorer. In the past two seasons, he has managed 59 goals for Hearts in all competitions, and he is definitely someone who can add great value and quality to the side.

He has rejected multiple contract extensions at Hearts, and with his contract expiring, there is a chance that he could be available at a decent price. In that case, it makes sense to spend money on him.

In order to win trophies and challenge for the SPFL title, sometimes you need to take these smart moves, and Rangers must take this opportunity.

At 28, Shankland can continue producing his best form for a few more years, but there will hardly be any resale value. It is a calculative gamble and Rangers must take it, considering that they need to sign a new striker.
