Liverpool need to pay £70m to sign Marc Guehi

Liverpool have tracked Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi “recently” as they look to sign a new central defender.

The Reds have enough depth in their defensive areas, but a new signing is needed after Joel Matip left the club after his contract expired.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Leny Yoro, but it appears that he is on his way to joining Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Arsenal also showed an interest in signing Guehi who was simply outstanding for England in the 2024 Euro Championships.

According to a report from The Times, the Gunners have been “priced out of a move” for Guehi, and that’s why they have turned their attention towards Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Guehi joined Selhurst Park from Chelsea in 2021 for a fee of around £18 million. Crystal Palace now value the defender at more than £70 million as they need to pay Chelsea 20 per cent of the profit on the deal.

Should Liverpool invest heavily in Marc Guehi?

Liverpool have yet to sign a player this summer, but they will probably feel the need to bring in a few new faces at some point.

Missing out on Leno will probably hurt the Reds, as they are looking to invest in young players who can represent the club for years to come.

Guehi is a terrific player who has proved his quality for Palace and England. He is strong in tackles and making clearances, and has loads of Premier League experience.

He still has two years left on his current deal and Liverpool may not be willing to pay that amount for the defender at the moment.

Liverpool may look to involve other players as part of the deal if they want him badly.

The Eagles have already sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer on a big-money deal, and they will make strong efforts to keep hold of all their star players.
