Manchester United have reignited their interest in Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, according to InterLive.
The Red Devils are long-term admirers of the Dutchman and remain determined to lure him to Old Trafford this summer.
Inter are reluctant to sell Dumfries, with manager Simone Inzaghi reportedly a huge fan of the 28-year-old defender. But the player’s contract situation could force their hand.
Dumfries played a crucial role in helping Inter secure the Serie A title last season. He featured 36 times across all competitions, recording four goals and six assists.
He was part of Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad that reached the 2024 European Championship semi-final.
Dumfries has been on Inter’s books since the club paid £12 million to lure him away from PSV Eindhoven in 2021.
He has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and Inter are reportedly working around the clock to tie him to a new deal and extend his stay at the Guiseppe Meazza beyond 2025.
However, United have refused to throw in the towel, and Erik ten Hag is trying to convince the board to sign the Netherlands international.
If Inter fail to agree a new deal with Dumfries, they’ll be willing to listen to offers to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
United manager Ten Hag is a huge fan of Dumfries and is trying to convince the recruitment team to submit an offer of around £17m to sign the defender.
The Red Devils need reinforcements at full-back, and Dumfries is a top priority.
United could also explore a player-plus-cash deal that would involve Aaron Wan-Bissaka heading in the opposite direction, considering they’re trying to be prudent in their expenditure this summer.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also in talks to sign Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
The Moroccan was one step away from joining West Ham United, but they pulled the plug on the deal due to excessive demands from the player’s agent.
