Manchester United first-team stars gathered at Carrington on Monday to kick off preparations for the heavily anticipated 2024/25 season.
According to The Sun, Mason Greenwood was among the players to touch down at United’s famous training ground for the opening off-season day.
Greenwood spent last season on loan at La Liga minnows Getafe after returning to football following a year-long hiatus due to the infamous rape scandal.
Despite his lengthy spell on the sidelines, the 22-year-old forward enjoyed an impressive campaign in Spain, netting eight goals and providing six assists in 33 league appearances.
El Geta head coach Jose Bordalas was desperate to keep hold of the Englishman, but the Spaniards couldn’t cope with the cost of the operation, resulting in Greenwood’s return to Old Trafford.
However, he’ll not stay in Manchester for long.
He’ll likely pack his bags before the club’s pre-season friendlies get underway, with Ligue 1 giants Olympique Marseille emerging as potential candidates to offer him an escape route from England.
In addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s side, several Serie A clubs have registered an interest in the left-footed forward.
Juventus keep Greenwood in high regard.
With Federico Chiesa deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Thiago Motta, the record-time Italian champions are keen to replace him with the Man United outcast.
It’s been a busy summer for Juventus. They’ve already signed Douglas Luiz and Michele Di Gregorio, and it’s hard to put it past them to lure Greenwood to Turin.
Looking to spoil their plans is Lazio.
Club president Claudio Lotito is Greenwood’s long-term admirer. He tried to capture the youngster last summer before Getafe beat him to the punch.
But after losing Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson at the end of last season, the Lazio president is more determined than ever to bolster Marco Baroni’s attacking options.
