Max Kilman set to undergo West Ham medical

West Ham are finalising on a deal to sign Max Kilman from Wolves

According to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, the 27-year-old defender is having his medical this afternoon (4 July) ahead of his move to West Ham.

Writing on X, Sheth says that Maidenhead, the club that sold Kilman to Wolves, will have a significant sell-on, thought to be around 15-20%.

Wolves rejected the Hammers’ opening bid for Kilman, which was around £25 million. The Hammers even considered offering a player in exchange, but that option was not welcomed.

West Ham then looked at other options. They made an attempt to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, but the French club rejected their opening bid.

Then it prompted the Hammers to return to Kilman and pay an extra £15 million to reach an agreement with the player. Kilman is expected to sign a six-year contract at the London Stadium.

Sheth tweeted: “Kilman having West Ham United medical this afternoon… clubs finalising details of deal after agreeing fee in region of £40m.

“Kilman joined Wolves from Maidenhead in 2018 – Maidenhead have significant sell-on, thought to be 15-20%.”

Kilman joined from non-League Maidenhead in a £40,000 deal in August 2018, and they will receive a hefty transfer fee as well as part of the deal.

He has made 151 appearances for Wolves in all competitions since joining the club. He only signed a new Wolves long-term contract less than 12 months ago but the offer from West Ham was too good in the end to reject.

It will be interesting to see if West Ham make an effort to sign Todibo as well. With the futures of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd both up in the air, they probably need more than one defender, and Todibo would be another cracking addition.

The Hammers are looking to sign a new right-back, and they have earmarked Southampton fullback Kyle Walker-Peters as a potential option. He could be included in a deal that will see Flynn Downes move the other way.
