Newcastle United have been very quiet this month but they could soon make a breakthrough in adding a new player.
The Magpies have made four signings so far, including the conversion of the Lewis Hall deal into a permanent one.
With the PSR threat now properly dealt with, Newcastle must now be looking to bring in some quality players to the side.
Llyod Kelly has joined on a free transfer, while Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy will boost the goalkeeping department.
But the Magpies need more players who can genuinely improve the starting XI and Sporting director Paul Mitchell is probably now looking to bring in another centre-back to the ranks in the coming days.
The long-term injuries to Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman mean the duo will be out of action for the start of the next season. Newcastle need more defenders ahead of next season.
Newcastle United set for an out of the blue signing?
According to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, the Magpies are close to a breakthrough in a deal for a new player, but it is everyone’s guess at the moment who that could be.
Edwards says that the player could be German defender Malick Thiaw, but that may not be the case. It could be someone who has not been discussed before, and could be an out of the blue signing.
He wrote on X: “I think we are close to seeing a breakthrough in Newcastle recruitment this summer. Trying to find out more but could be Thiaw. Could be a name that comes completely out of the blue.”
Journalist Joe Bland says that the Magpies worked on signing a domestic centre-back last week, and he has no clue about who the next signing could be.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Thiaw this summer. It was previously suggested that the Magpies were close to signing the 22-year-old centre-back, but Fabrizio Romano has recently rubbished the rumours.
