Newcastle have strong interest in signing AC Milan star Malick Thiaw

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan star Malick Thiaw.

The 22-year-old has been an important player for the Serie A side since joining them from Schalke in the summer of 2022.

He featured in 30 matches across all competitions last season despite picking up a serious injury in December.

Malick’s contract at the San Siro will expire in 2027 but a good offer could convince the Rossoneri to part with him this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United have a strong interest in signing the Germany international.

The Premier League club are yet to make an official bid but they are reportedly very keen to secure his services, with new sporting director Paul Mitchell a huge admirer of the defender.

Eddie Howe’s side have already completed a move for Lloyd Kelly but they are looking to add another quality centre-back.

Both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are set to remain sidelined for a lengthy spell with ACL injuries, leaving the defence light on senior bodies.

Malick could be a good signing for the Magpies who will be looking to make a comeback in 2024-25 after a disappointing seventh-place league finish last season.

The Germany international averaged 1.6 tackles, 3.6 ball recoveries and 2.6 clearances per game in the Serie A last season.

He is undoubtedly a top defender but his injury record has been poor and that is a concern for Newcastle.
