The Magpies have turned their attention towards signing Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez this summer.
According to a report from La Nazione (h/t Viola News), the Magpies have made an offer to sign the 26-year-old winger this summer.
The 2024 Copa America winner with Argentina is still on holiday in Buenos Aires, but his future could be in doubt as the Magpies are keen to sign him.
Newcastle have made the offer via intermediaries a few days ago, but it is nowhere near the £36 million offered by Brentford 12 months ago.
It is the opening offer for the 39-time capped international, and it is likely to be rejected. However, Newcastle could make an improved bid if they manage to sell Almiron.
Gonzalez has been an important player for the Viola. He has made 125 appearances for the Serie A club scoring 38 goals in three seasons.
