Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares has been linked with an exit in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old joined the Gunners in 2021 for a fee around £8 million but the move hasn’t worked out for either side.
He is clearly not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta and the club are looking to get him off their payroll this summer.
Serie A outfit Lazio are said to be eyeing a move while Ajax have also been credited with an interest.
However, the Portuguese has insisted that he wants to remain in North London next season, per Record (Page 24, July 7).
Tavares spent the last two seasons on loan after failing to establish himself at the Emirates Stadium.
He was at Nottingham Forest last term but failed to make a huge impact for the Tricky Trees and was limited to just 12 appearances across all competitions.
Forest decided not to activate the purchase option and he returned to Arsenal.
The 24-year-old is very eager to stay at the Gunners but he clearly doesn’t have a future at the club.
Mikel Arteta’s side already have various options at left-back, particularly with Jurrien Timber regaining full fitness and Kieran Tierney also returning from his loan spell.
The Premier League giants also look close to sealing a transfer for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, thus further reducing Tavares’ first-team opportunities.
It looks best for both parties if the Portuguese ends up leaving the club this summer.
