Rory Finneran will sign Newcastle United contract

Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign Blackburn Rovers talent Rory Finneran.

The Magpies have been busy this summer window but there has been a relatively quiet activity this month so far.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the “top talent” will move to St James’ Park, and verbal agreement has been in place for the captain of the Republic of Ireland Under 17 player.

The 16-year-old is considered a “huge talent” and Romano says it’s a “done deal” situation at the moment.

Romano wrote on X: “Understand Rory Finneran will sign his contract as new Newcastle player today. He’s considered a huge talent. Deal done.”

The youngster refused to accept Blackburn’s offer of a scholarship deal.

While they made a big attempt to sign him, a move to Newcastle was too tempting for him to refuse straightaway.

Earlier this month, the Northern Echo claimed that Newcastle were confident of signing the youngster who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the country.

He became Blackburn’s youngest senior player when he came off the bench in the final stage of an FA Cup victory over Cambridge United at the age of 15 years and 312 days.

He would undoubtedly be a major coup for the Newcastle academy, and the Magpies fans will hope that he can gradually step up and represent the senior side in years to come.

The Magpies have signed two goalkeepers this summer already, with John Ruddy joining on free transfer and Odysseas Vlachodimos moving from Nottingham Forest.

They have also signed Llyod Kelly for free who was reunited with Eddie Howe after leaving AFC Bournemouth. Lewis Hall has joined from Chelsea permanently.
