Crystal Palace are close to securing the signing of Ryan Sessegnon on a free transfer.
According to journalist Edmund Brack, Sessegnon is looking to secure a contract at Selhurst Park after he featured in the behind-closed-doors friendly against AFC Bournemouth last Saturday.
The 24-year-old versatile defender was released by Tottenham after the end of the season, and Sessegnon is currently without a club.
He was linked with a move to several clubs in England, but it seems he will join Crystal Palace in the coming days.
While nobody doubts his talent, his fitness was a major concern, as he didn’t play last season due to a series of injuries.
However, he has worked with the Eagles in training to keep his body in shape and has played a friendly game to convince Oliver Glasner that he is fit enough to join them.
Brack wrote on X: “Ryan Sessegnon featured in the game as he looks to land a contract with the Eagles.”
An image has been making the rounds on the internet showing Sessegnon spotted with a fan after the game, wearing a yellow Crystal Palace shirt.
Sessegnon suffered a hamstring injury last season and needed surgery. He has now fully recovered, and the Eagles do not have any obstacle to offering him a new contract.
Such formalities may have already been completed. Glasner is reportedly a big admirer of the London-born defender and has monitored him since his loan spell at TSG Hoffenheim.
The former Fulham defender can play as a wing-back as well as a left-winger. In Glasner’s system, he is likely to provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell at left wing-back.
The Eagles have already secured two signings, and it appears that they have pulled out a smart free transfer here.
When he first burst onto the scene, Sessegnon was seen as one of the country’s top young talents, but repeated injuries and inconsistency have hampered his progress.
At Crystal Palace, he will get the opportunity of a fresh start.
