Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Rennes attacker Desire Doue this summer but face stiff competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich for the services of the France youth international, according to the Sun.
The 19-year-old caught the eyes of Spurs and other suitors last term after weighing in with four goals and five assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances, while Arsenal have been linked too.
Doue started 17 of those games and also featured in nine games across the Europa League and Coupe de France, and the French teenage sensation is widely considered as one of the most talented prospects in European football given his huge potential.
Tottenham have already held talks with his representatives as well as Rennes, and they see him as top priority this summer.
Doue can play on both wings, behind the striker and as a central midfielder, and such versatility has impressed Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian wants a deal done for the Rennes kid by next week and make him his first signing of the summer transfer window.
The France under-21 international is part of the French squad for the 2024 Olympics later this month, and he is very likely to attract even more suitors if he ends up impressing under Thierry Henry at the tournament in Paris.
Spurs want to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of 2024-25 after missing out on Champions League qualification last season, and Doue is perfect for their style of play under Postecoglou as he is not only a brilliant dribbler but is also excellent defensively.
However, their failure to qualify for the elite European competition could work against them in pursuit of the Frenchman.
The likes of PSG and Bayern are offering Champions League football and a chance to win major silverware on a regularly, which makes them more attractive to him compared to a club like Tottenham without any trophy since 2008.
