Tottenham Hotspur reject £11 million from AC Milan for Emerson Royal

AC Milan remain keen on recruiting the services of Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal this summer but will have to return with an improved bid as the North London club have knocked back their £11 million bid, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.

New Milan manager Paulo Fonseca wants a right-back with the same physicality and quality as France international left-back Theo Hernandez, and his club are pushing hard for the Spurs star as he fits the bill.

However, they need to improve their opening offer as Tottenham value the 10-cap Brazilian international more than what the Serie A club have brought to the table having signed him from Barcelona for £25.8m in July 2021.

Spurs rejected £20m from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr for Emerson in January 2024 and Milan have to table a serious bid as the 25-year-old is a key player given his versatility, and he still has two more years left on his current contract.

The former Barca star played 24 games across all competitions in 2023-24, featuring at right-back, left-back and centre-back, and Milan believe having such a quality and experienced player within their ranks will help boost their chances of winning the Italian top-flight next season.

Talks are expected to continue between both clubs as Emerson is keen on moving to Milan while Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is open to letting him leave as he plans to bolster his defensive options with quality players this summer.

Spurs conceded 61 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and will need to improve significantly at the back next term if they are to end their 15-year trophy drought.

Selling Emerson comes with its risks as not many players can function effectively well across the backline like the South American, but Tottenham have plans in place to secure a quality replacement and will spring into action once he leaves.
