West Ham want to sign Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson

West Ham are looking to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window and they have considered several options.

The Hammers are currently in Austria for pre-season training and Danny Ings is their only recognised striker at the moment. Ings, though, is facing an uncertain future at the club.

According to a report from The Athletic, Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is a top target for the Hammers, but they are also checking on other options.

It has been suggested that Julen Lopetegui is planning on playing a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system, and he is interested in signing Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.

French club Lens’ Elye Wahi and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri are other names on West Ham sporting director Tim Steidten’s shortlist.

Callum Wilson would be a smart signing for West Ham

Ideally, Lopetegui would love to make a wholesome change to the squad, and add new players in every position. But it will require more than one transfer window to do it.

Signing a new striker is necessary. The Hammers have signed Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras but he is mainly seen as a player for the future.

Michail Antonio is likely to be sold, which means a new striker is a priority.

While investing heavily in a young striker like Duran makes a lot of sense, he is still unproven in the Premier League.

Lopetegui will need someone with loads of Premier League experience and a proven goalscorer. That is why they should aim to sign Wilson, who could be sold by Newcastle this summer.

He has scored 140 goals in his club career to date, out of which 48 goals in 108 games have come for Newcastle.

At 32, he still has a few good years left in him and could prove to be a smart addition to the Hammers.
