Wilfred Ndidi to stay at Leicester despite Everton bid

Everton will miss out on Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this summer.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Toffees have submitted a bid to sign the 27-year-old midfielder, but he has chosen to stay with the Foxes.

Writing on X, the Belgian journalist adds that that the Foxes will confirm the news in the coming days.

The vastly experienced midfielder was available for free after his contract at the club expired, and Everton tried to get him on board.

However, it looks likely that Ndidi will sign a new three-year contract at the King Power Stadium.

He wrote on X: “Wilfried Ndidi decided to stay at Leicester City despite Everton FC bid. News supposed to be confirmed by Leicester City in the next days. Confirmed.”

Ndidi would have been a good signing for the Toffees. He has loads of Premier League experience and has made 58 appearances for Nigeria as well.

The midfield is one area Everton could look to bolster this summer. Idrissa Gueye will turn 35 in September and Everton need to replace him at some point.

There are also suggestions that Amadou Onana could be sold if the Toffees receive a strong offer for the Belgian international. Currently, there’s none on the table.

It feels like Everton may have missed out on a smart signing, but it was always going to be difficult as Ndidi was demanding a high salary.

He already rejected a move to Sevilla and has now rejected the opportunity to move to Goodison Park. He has decided to continue his football at Leicester who will play in the Premier League next season.

Everton have made some smart signings so far, but Sean Dyche should still be looking to add an experienced central midfielder, even if Onana stays at the club.
