Everton have made an approach to sign Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.
David Ornstein reported on 22 August that the Toffees have held initial talks to sign the defender, who will turn 34 next month.
This has been a fantastic transfer window for Everton, with the Toffees signing as many as five players. Sean Dyche wants to add one more quality player to the ranks before the transfer deadline and has earmarked Trippier as a potential option.
Dyche knows very well what Trippier can bring to the table, as the pair worked together during their time at Burnley.
The versatile defender wants to explore new opportunities and he is ready to quit St James’ Park. The England defender has handed in a transfer request as he looks to secure a move away from Tyneside.
Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has shared on X that Everton have spoken with Newcastle about a possible move for the former Tottenham Hotspur full-back.
The defender has a contract at St James’ Park until 2026, and a loan away from the club cannot be completely ruled out.
However, Myers does not think it will be possible to complete the deal for Trippier before Everton’s next Premier League game this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
Myers wrote on X – “It would need to be by noon tomorrow, I doubt that tbh.”
Newcastle paid £12 million to sign Trippier from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, and he has been an integral part of the side under Eddie Howe.
During the January windows, Trippier was linked with a move away from St James’ Park, but Newcastle were determined to keep him at all costs.
He is a player Howe admires, but this season, the veteran player could lose his starting spot. In the opening game against Southampton, Tino Livramento started ahead of him. Lloyd Kelly and Emil Krafth were both used in the match ahead of Trippier.
Trippier has been stripped of his captaincy and the defender has also given up the St. James’ Park box, a clear indication that his exit from the club is only a matter of time.
