Arsenal back in the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen

Arsenal target Osimhen as backup option if Gyokeres pursuit falls through

Arsenal have had a quiet summer transfer window so far regarding arrivals as they have only added Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

But they could make a marquee signing before the transfer window closes on August 30.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners are back in the race for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and could make a late move for the striker.

The Nigerian’s future has been a subject of debate throughout the summer as he seeks a new challenge at another club.

Napoli want an enormous £113 million fee for the 25-year-old, despite his contract expiring in 2026 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

No club will meet such a huge valuation and the Serie A club may reduce their asking fee for their prized asset.

Arsenal already have Kai Havertz who made an impressive start to the new campaign by scoring against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League opener.

The German also struck 13 goals and created seven assists in 37 league matches last term. But he is not a natural striker and Osimhen could be an upgrade on him.

The Nigeria international has been earning rave reviews with his performances in Italy since joining Napoli in 2020.

In 133 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 76 and assisted 18 goals for the Serie A outfit.

Osimhen has all the qualities to be a huge success in the Premier League.

But a deal for the 25-year-old is not easy as they face competition from some of the top European clubs for him.
