Aston Villa have had a very busy summer transfer window as they aim to secure another top-four Premier League finish next season.
Unai Emery’s side have already confirmed the signings of Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Dobbin, Jaden Philogene, Ross Barkley, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior.
But they are not done yet and could still be in the market for a new centre-back.
According to The Telegraph, Diego Carlos is expected to leave Villa amid interest from Fulham and West Ham United, and they have set their sights on Liverpool’s Joe Gomez as a potential replacement.
Gomez joined the Reds in 2015 from Charlton Athletic and has since made 224 appearances across all competitions.
His time in Merseyside has seen him lifting the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
But the England international isn’t the first-choice centre-back and could be allowed to leave the club this summer, despite his contract expiring in 2027.
Gomez could be a smart acquisition for Villa as his huge experience in the Premier League could serve them well.
The 27-year-old mainly plays in central defence but can also be utilised as a full-back.
Liverpool had to deal with a lot of injuries last season but Gomez emerged as one of the most dependable players for them. He featured in 51 matches across all competitions last term, with 32 of them coming in the Premier League.
