Aston Villa in talks to sign Colombian defender Yeimar Mosquera

Aston Villa have done some incredible business this summer window.

This has been a massive transfer window for the Villans, with Unai Emery signing as many as eight new players.

Villa needed to add depth to their squad as they will be playing in the Champions League this season, and the club has properly backed their manager.

While the club also lost Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz, they made adequate signings to bolster their midfield and forward areas.

It seems Villa are now looking to add a new central defender and have earmarked Colombian defender Yeimar Mosquera as a potential option.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, there is optimism that an agreement can be reached between all parties.

He wrote on X: “Aston Villa in talks to sign 19-year-old Colombian defender Yeimar Mosquera from Orsomarso SC. Optimism an agreement can be reached.”

According to a report from The Athletic, Villa have made an approach to sign the Colombian centre-back.

He joined second-division Colombian outfit Orsomarso in January, and Villa are impressed with what they have seen from him.

The young defender is now aiming to finalise an agreement, and there is a feeling that it will be completed shortly.

Mosquera featured for Colombia’s under-20s last season and made 20 domestic appearances, scoring twice.

If the deal goes through, which is highly likely, the Colombian will become Villa’s ninth signing this summer.

Emery has Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings as first-team central defenders. However, Carlos is attracting interest from Fulham who have had a bid rejected rejected for the Brazilian defender already.

If Carlos leaves, Mosquera can replace him in the side. The teenage defender would be regarded as one for the future and could head out on loan to Villa’s Spanish sister club, Real Union, having had relatively little first-team experience at Orsomarso.
