Aston Villa looking to sign Giovani Lo Celso on a free transfer

Aston Villa have been one of the busiest clubs in the ongoing summer transfer window.

There have been some big departures from Villa Park this summer, particularly Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby.

However, the Midlands outfit have also added several quality players to the ranks including Lewis Dubbin, Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea, Jaden Philogene and Amadou Onana.

Now Estadio Deportivo are reporting Villa are looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso on a free transfer on deadline day.

However, Spurs are not ready to let the 28-year-old leave as a free agent.

Lo Celso reportedly doesn’t want to continue in the Premier League but a move to the Midlands and the possibility of playing in the Champions League could be very tempting for him.

The Argentina international joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019, initially on loan that was later made permanent

However, he has failed to make a big impact for the North Londoners, featuring in 108 games and scoring 10 goals.

The 28-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality but has failed to deliver consistent performances.

Last season, he was limited to just four Premier League starts due to form and injury issues.

However, manager Unai Emery could unlock Lo Celso’s potential as he has done with several other players in the past.

They could also sign the Argentine on a free transfer, although Tottenham appear intent on receiving some fee for the player who has a year left on his current contract.
