Barcelona agree deal to sign RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo

Barcelona have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Both clubs have reached a verbal agreement over a total package worth €62 million for the dazzling forward after his exceptional display at this summer’s European Championship.

Olmo was one of several standout performers for Spain, playing a key role as La Roja clinched an unprecedented fourth Euros title in Germany.

Despite starting the tournament behind potential new teammate Pedri, an injury to the Barca midfield maestro paved the way for Olmo to establish himself in Luis de la Fuente’s side.

Olmo finished the tournament as Spain’s top scorer with three goals, while his two assists were only matched by Paris Saint-Germain’s Fabian Ruiz and surpassed by Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal.

Olmo was also in phenomenal form for Leipzig last season, netting eight goals and providing five assists in 25 games across all competitions.

The 26-year-old made his desire for a new challenge clear after the Euro 2024 tournament after four and a half years at the Red Bull Arena.

Olmo’s remarks sparked plenty of interest from clubs across Europe, but Manchester City and Barca were believed to be in pole position to land his signature.

After his exceptional Euro 2024 display, the Blaugranas have pulled out all the stops to re-sign Olmo, who came up through the club’s youth ranks before joining Dinamo Zagreb on a free transfer in 2014.

Barca have already seen at least one bid rejected for the Spanish maestro, but they have now agreed to pay an initial €55m plus an additional €7m in potential add-ons.

Olmo has agreed a long-term contract with the La Liga runners-up and will sign a six-year deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2030.

Barca were also interested in Olmo’s international teammate and fellow highly coveted star Nico Williams, but the winger is set to remain at Athletic Bilbao for at least one more season.
