Celtic agree personal terms to sign Arne Engels

Celtic are looking to sign a new midfielder in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

The Bhoys have agreed a deal in the region of £30 million to sell Matt O’Riley, and Brendan Rodgers to looking to replenish the void with quality additions.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the Hoops have submitted a bid for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels.

The 20-year-old midfielder is keen to join the Scottish Champions, and Celtic are pushing hard to bring him to Celtic Park.

They have made an opening bid in the region of £6.5 million for the 20-year-old. Augsburg value the midfielder highly, so it will be interesting to see if the offer is acceptable to them.

Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg says that “concrete talks” have taken place between the two clubs, and the Hoops have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder.

Augsburg are willing to listen to offers from around £8.4 million – £12.7 million, and Celtic may need to improve their bid if it is rejected.

They have money to spend, and the Bhoys should back their manager with proper funds. Celtic spent heavily on signing a new striker, with Adam Idah joining from Norwich City on a permanent deal.

Celtic have also stepped up their chase to bring Los Angeles playmaker Mateusz Bogusz to Celtic Park, and negotiations will continue after Sunday.

Rodgers has made it clear that it won’t be easy for the Hoops to replace O’Riley directly, but Celtic can rebuild the squad in a different way.

Engels joined Augsburg from Club NXT in the January window of 2023. Last season, he made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga, and he is good enough to play for a top club like Celtic.

Celtic are also looking to add a new left-back this summer and have reached a loan agreement to sign Barcelona left-back Alex Valle, who is due to undergo a medical on Monday.
