Celtic are looking to sign Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty before Friday’s deadline.
The Hoops are looking to add new centre-backs to their ranks after offloading fringe players. Yuki Kobayashi left for Portimonense, while Gustaf Lagerbielke joined FC Twente on loan.
Brendan Rodgers now wants to bring in a quality centre-back who can partner Cameron Carter-Vickers at the heart of the defence.
Trusty joined the Blades from Arsenal for £5 million last summer.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Celtic have already submitted a bid worth around £5 million for the Blades centre-back.
The USA international is a versatile defender who can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back. He made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Blades last season and has made one start in the Championship this season.
The Daily Record claims that the Blades are reluctant to sell the defender but the Hoops are pushing hard to try to make the move happen.
He is a vastly experienced defender and has made 251 appearances across all clubs in his career. At 26, he should be playing at the prime of his career, and a move to Celtic could appeal to him.
Celtic can offer him the chance to win major trophies and play in Europe. He could be used in the full-back role if needed, but the Bhoys may need to raise their offer to take him away from Bramall Lane.
The Bhoys have money to spend after they picked up a club record fee for the sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton.
Rodgers is looking to fill his void, and Celtic are working on double deals for Los Angeles FC attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz and Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels.
Celtic are also close to signing a new left-back and they have reached a loan agreement to bring Alex Valle to Parkhead from Barcelona.
