Celtic signing LAFC attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz looking unlikely at this stage

Celtic want to sign LAFC attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz as a replacement for the departed Danish star Matt O’Riley, but their proposed transfer for the former Leeds United man is looking unlikely at this stage, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Celtic have already tabled a formal bid for the Polish midfielder, but they are yet to near the demands of the MLS club. Both clubs are still far apart on valuation, and negotiations have not really been progressing ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Scottish Premiership club are desperate to replace O’Riley with a quality replacement capable of producing close to the performances the Denmark international put in for them in the two and half seasons he spent at Parkhead, and Bogusz looks like the perfect fit.

The 23-year-old has bagged 21 goals and 15 assists in 76 games for LAFC, and he has what it takes to fill the big shoes the new Brighton man left behind at Celtic.

Missing out on Bogusz will be a massive blow for the Hoops, but manager Brendan Rodgers will have a plan B and will move to other options if the American club are unwilling to play ball.

O’Riley left the Bhoys after 27 goals and 35 assists in 124 games, with 19 goals and 18 assists coming in 49 games last term, and Celtic have to get in the perfect man to replace him if they are to boost their chances of continuing their domestic dominance.

They will also look to impress in the Champions League this term, and while having their recently departed star could have come in handy in the elite European competition, the Hoops will hope to prove themselves without his services.
