Celtic find themselves in an uncomfortable position after learning that Manchester City are contemplating making a move for their star striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Bhoys are preparing to bid farewell to their star midfielder, Matt O’Riley, who is likely to move to Brighton in the coming days.
According to a report from The Times, City’s transfer link to Furuhashi was an “unexpected twist” for Celtic on Wednesday morning.
Losing two big players in a single transfer window would be a catastrophic blow for the Scottish champions.
The report claims that the Hoops would hold out for a club-record fee for Furuhashi, given his importance to the side.
He is a popular player among the fans, and his effectiveness is beyond any doubt. Signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2021 for £4.5 million, he has proved to be a massive success.
The Japan international has scored 73 times in 135 Celtic games including seven in Old Firm matches against Rangers.
He will turn 30 in January but Celtic would demand a high transfer fee for him as he has a contract until 2027.
Celtic do not need to sell him, but Furuhashi may feel it is a glorious opportunity to play for a massive Premier League club and may find it too hard to turn down.
Manchester City are in the market to sign a new striker after Julian Alvarez left the Champions to join Atletico Madrid in a £82 million move.
City do not have any recognised striker to cover for Erling Haaland, and Kyogo would be a solid addition to the side.
According to Daily Record, Pep Guardiola was heavily impressed by Kyogo when Celtic faced Man City in a pre-season friendly.
Celtic are likely to receive more than £25 million for O’Riley, and they would demand a similar sort of fee to be paid for their star striker.
The Hoops have already signed Adam Idah and Brendan Rodgers could be forced into the transfer market if they lose Kyogo.
