Celtic winger Mikey Johnston set to undergo West Brom medical

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is set to leave Parkhead before Friday’s transfer deadline.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the Bhoys winger is set to undergo his medical with the Baggies on Thursday (29 August).

Anthony Joseph claimed yesterday that West Brom offered around £3 million to bring him to the Hawthorns.

The Ireland international travelled to the Midlands last night after Celtic agreed the offer from West Brom.

Sheffield United and Burnley also showed interest in signing the 25-year-old winger. Celtic had even agreed a £2.5m offer from the Blades earlier this week, but West Brom have moved quickly to secure his signature.

Johnston enjoyed a successful loan spell at West Brom after joining them in the January transfer window. He made a tremendous impact, scoring seven goals, and the Baggies made the right choice to sign him permanently.

Celtic have offloaded players (permanently or on loans) like Oh Hyeon-gyu, Sead Haksabanovic, Benjamin Siegrist, Bosun Lawal, Daniel Kelly, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Matt O’Riley, and Johnston is now on his way out of the club as well.

The Hoops have money to spend at the moment, and it will be interesting to see how many players Celtic can bring on the transfer deadline day.

Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, and Alex Valle (on loan from Barcelona) have joined the Hoops already, but Brendan Rodgers is looking to add more players to add more quality to the side.

Sheffield United centre-back Auston Trusty has been linked with a move to Celtic Park, and the Bhoys are expected to continue talks to get him on board. An opening offer of around £5 million was knocked back, and Celtic will have to submit a better offer.

Celtic have also increased their offer for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels to £10 million, as the Bhoys are looking to sign a replacement for O’Riley.
