Chris Sutton reacts as Rangers star Todd Cantwell closes in on Blackburn Rovers move

Rangers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell is closing in on a move to Blackburn Rovers ahead of the 11 pm summer transfer deadline tonight, according to BBC Sport Lancashire journalist Andy Bayes.

The Englishman made it clear a couple of weeks ago that he wants to leave the Ibrox club this summer, and he has all but got his wish from the look of things.

Celtic hero Chris Sutton and the outgoing Rangers star often got involved in verbal spats on the internet, and the pundit has parting words for the former Norwich City man on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Cantwell previously clashed with Scott McGregor after a match between Celtic and Rangers, going on to claim he wanted to win more than the Hoops captain.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old could not get the better of McGregor and the Parkhead club, watching them win the domestic treble in 2022-23 and a double last term, with only one Scottish League Cup medal all he has to show for the two seasons he spent in the Scottish Premiership.

Cantwell is leaving Rangers after 14 goals and 12 assists in 64 games, and many expected him to do more given his quality and talent.

The Light Blues manager Philippe Clement is already looking to get a replacement for the departing Englishman, with a season-long for Sassuolo attacking midfielder Nedim Bajrami mooted.

Rangers have already signed Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron, Liam Kelly, Hamza Igamane, Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny, while Feyenoord defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo has joined on loan.
