Crystal Palace make transfer decision on Jean-Philippe Mateta after Aston Villa inquiry

Aston Villa have recently made an approach to sign Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Unai Emery wants to bolster his attacking options before the end of the window, with the future of Colombian striker Jhon Duran in doubt.

Express Sport reported last month that the Villans have reached out to Mateta’s camp to explore the possibility of a transfer, but they have not made an offer to Palace yet.

Mateta has a contract at Selhurst Pak until 2026, and while the Eagles have been discussing with him about a new deal, there has not been any progress on that front.

According to a report from The Standard, Palace insist the French striker is not for sale.

Mateta, currently at the Olympics with France, scored 16 Premier League goals last season and helped the Eagles finish in a respectable position under Oliver Glasner.

Aston Villa have done incredible business so far

Eight players have arrived at Villa Park this summer already.

Villa will play in the Champions League next season, and they need a strong squad.

At the start of the summer window, they had to sell players to comply with PSR rules and sold Tim Iroegbunam to Everton and Douglas Luiz to Juventus.

In the case of Luiz, the deal was structured in a way where they received along with two players – left winger Samuel Iling-Junior and defensive midfielder Enzo Barrenechea.

Villa also sold Moussa Diaby to Saudi Pro-League club Al-Ittihad and also offloaded Calum Chambers, Morgan Sanson, and Viljami Sinisalo.

The money has been properly utilised as Villa signed Amadou Onana from Everton, Ross Barkley from Luton Town, Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, Cameron Archer from Sheffield United, Lewis Dobbin from Everton and Jaden Philogene from Hull City.

Villa are likely to keep hold of Duran as West Ham are now moving on to other targets. But if they really want to sign a new striker, they probably should look at options elsewhere.
